What is UV-C Disinfection?

UV-C LED disinfection is a well-known and market-proven disinfection solution. It has been actively used for more than the past 40 years to boost healthier environments. It is thus recognized as one of the oldest methods to disinfect water, air, and surfaces.

Although highly effective, UV-C disinfection is invisible to the human eye due to its short wavelength. UV-C technology employs ultraviolet light, which is a type of radiation. UV-C is highly applicable for disinfection due to its wavelength.

The sun also radiates ultraviolet light in the UV range, but luckily, the atmosphere protects us from the most harmful UV light. UV has a bandwidth between 200-400 nanometers (nm) with several practical advantages to offer. Ultraviolet light is categorized into three categories being UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C. UV-C light provides the shortest wavelength, ranging between 200-280 nm.

UV-C LED is germicidal, which means that it can effectively inactivate microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, pathogens, and protozoa.

When microorganisms are exposed to UV-C light, their DNA will absorb the UV light, ultimately harming the DNA structure. This will make them unable to reproduce and duplicate. This thereby stops their growth.

This makes UV disinfection an environmentally friendly, chemical-free, and highly effective way to disinfect and safeguard water, air, and surfaces against harmful microorganisms.
