Hybrid Technology Membrane Liqtech Ceramics

Hybrid Technology Ceramic Membrane

The new asymmetric Hybrid Technology Membrane (HTM) combines the desired properties from silicon carbide (SiC) and zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) ceramics.

Our Hybrid Technology Membrane (HTM) is our newest asymmetric ceramic membrane with a pore size of 60 nanometers (nm) suitable for ultrafiltration (UF) technologies. Our HTM represents a patented membrane filtration technology, which can purify and clean water and liquids at an extremely pure level. It is a unique hybrid solution, which combines the best of two worlds – respectively, the best of competing oxide membrane technologies and our commercial silicon carbide (SiC) membrane technology. By combining silicon carbide and zirconium dioxide (ZrO₂), our hybrid technology membrane obtains unique and ground-breaking properties. This ground-breaking membrane technology facilitates new separation processes and new filtration applications.

Both silicon carbide and oxide zirconia are chemically resistant in all pH-values from 0-14, making the hybrid technology membrane capable of working with all sorts of liquids. The HTM membrane has a long lifetime and can be used in harsh conditions without diminishing membrane performance.

Our hybrid technology membranes are produced in customized geometries, making them adaptable to your specific filtration needs.

Superior Hybrid Technology Membrane

Features & Benefits

  • 60 nanometer pore size
  • Unmatched flux
  • Small footprint
  • Excellent thermal properties
Thermally resistant up to 800°C - Steam cleaning, more efficient chemical cleaning, and high-temperature applications.
  • Unmatched mechanical robustness
  • Chemically resistant
SiC and ZrO2 are chemical-resistant materials in a wide pH range (0-14).
  • Efficient cleaning
  • Corrosive resistant
The combination is new to the industry – conventional oxide supports lack the corrosion resistance enabled by SiC. Monoclinic ZrO2 is more corrosion resistant compared to conventional ZrO2.
  • Well-defined selectivity
The sharp profile increases the selectivity towards targeted components, thus higher quality of the treated/product effluent.
  • High permeability
The SiC support has a higher permeability compared to conventional oxide ceramic supports.
  • Long service life - less maintenance
Extended membrane lifetime leading to reduced OPEX in both membrane replacement and labor cost.

Application Areas

  • Food & Beverages
  • Cosmetics
  • Drinking Water
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Agro-industries
  • Industrial wastewater
  • Pre-RO filtration
  • Others

Combining the best of two worlds...

The hybrid membrane product of the two ceramic materials offers the following advantages and values.

HTM Membrane Layer Liqtech Ceramics

The world of silicon carbide

Superior properties for our ceramic silicon carbide membrane.

The carrier of the Hybrid Technology Membrane consists of 100 % silicon carbide (SiC). Being one of the hardest materials in the world, this provides high durability, strong and unbreakable support, as well as unmatched mechanical robustness.

Furthermore, silicon carbide provides both the highest flux, high permeability, and a high level of hydrophilicity (water-loving material). Additionally, silicon carbide enables corrosion resistance, which conventional oxide supports lack.

Zirconium Dioxide Membrane Coating Liqtech Ceramics

The world of zirconium dioxide

Very well-defined selectivity with zirconium dioxide ceramics.

The Hybrid Technology Membrane coating layer consists of monoclinic zirconium dioxide (ZrO₂). This provides a very well-defined selectivity in the ultrafiltration (UF) range. The zirconia oxide adds mechanical strength and a dense active layer, which improves the filtration process by delivering a more exhaustive process as the sharp profile increases the selectivity towards targeted components, thus higher quality of the treated liquid. This can provide significant advantages in industries, which utilize filtration applications where durability and dense pore sizes are critical. Moreover, the lowered pore sizes deliver robustness of the filtration process by reduced pore plugging and fouling and a reduced need for membrane cleaning.

Sustainable changes and financial improvement

At LiqTech, we know that the decision-making processes regarding adopting sustainable solutions are heavily affected by the financial outlook. If sustainable solutions do not provide a prosperous economic perspective, they are not adopted. Fortunately, many sustainable solutions, including our Hybrid Technology Membrane, bring around sustainable changes and financial gains.

The robustness and mechanical strength of the Hybrid Technology Membranes contribute directly to reduced CAPEX and OPEX. The robustness and mechanical strength of the HTM delivers an extremely long membrane lifetime, which means that the membrane should not be replaced that often. Likewise, Hybrid Technology Membranes are easy to manage and maintain, which delivers reduced labor costs. The high permeability can lead to increased capacity and reduced energy consumption. Additionally, a water filtration system utilizes a small footprint, which means that you can increase your capacity by increasing the number of system components in the same space. This small footprint may even save you a renovation or a building extension. Thereby, this unique Hybrid Membrane Technology brings around sustainable changes as well as reduced CAPEX and OPEX – all of which improve your future operation.
